What is a criterion-referenced test in speech therapy?
A criterion-referenced test (CRT) measures a student's skill against a set criterion, not against other students. Give it once to get a baseline. Then give the same test each grading period, so your data stays consistent from one report to the next.
When should I use a rubric instead of a criterion-referenced test?
Use a rubric when a goal is hard to measure with right or wrong answers, like social language and other dynamic communication skills. A rubric tracks the things that add up to mastery, like how much cueing a student needs.
